Herts for Learning Annual SEND Conference - Safety Netting in the Classroom

Event date: 16 November 2017

Venue: Hertfordshire Development Centre, Stevenage

This conference will offer delegates a valuable opportunity to reflect upon their journey towards ensuring high quality teaching and learning-friendly classrooms for their pupils with SEND.

Nationally recognised speakers will share their thinking and ideas to help teachers improve the quality of the learning experiences for pupils who have additional needs or disabilities. Key to this is providing teaching staff with professional development to secure enhanced expertise for class and subject teachers, as described in the SEND code of practice (2015).  This year’s keynote speakers will be:

  • Neil Mackay (author of Total Teaching) will share ideas for simple changes that can bring better results in a classroom. His Notice and Adjust approach will support delegates to create the right classroom climate for pupils who struggle to learn.
  • Natalie Packer (author of The Perfect SENCO, and The Teacher’s Guide to SEN) will be exploring High Quality Teaching for children with SEN.

To support delegates in sharing the messages from the day with their staff, we will send electronic versions of a range of the materials to use as part of their staff professional development programme. A range of workshops will be available to enable delegates to focus and dig deeper into different aspects of learning from the day.

The features and benefits for delegates attending this conference will include:

  • having an opportunity to listen to national speakers with current and innovative ideas
  • having time to reflect, reconsider and re-energise the staff development programme and choose from a range of workshops to personalise their day
  • receiving a range of practical and ready-to-use materials for use with staff from their own school
  • improving access to learning for pupils with SEND
  • improving progress for struggling learners through improved classroom climate for learning
