Paul has worked in Education for 12 years as a School Business Manager in the secondary sector. He has worked the Watford, Stevenage and Potters Bar Community. Paul currently works in an Academy and is on the Senior Leadership Team and has been part of this academy for 7 years. Paul is also an associate Governor for the Finance committee. The school was built in the 1960’s and Paul enjoys the challenge of modernising old and tired buildings or project managing internal redecoration.

Having initially started his career in the Leisure Industry after 17 years of Managing Sports centre Paul decided to switch to Education where Health and Safety, Budgets and Customer Care are still a crucial part of his every day role. Paul recently joined a senior school in Stevenage as a parent Governor to offer support and within two meetings was asked to take over as Chair of Finance. However Paul is honest to say he is not anywhere near qualified as an accountant and sees himself as more of a “Jack of all trades, master of none” which he feels sums up SBM’s. However Paul has just signed up for the next round of CIPFA (Level Seven Certificate in school financial and operational leadership).

Paul cannot remember the last time he worked a 37 hour week and this shows his passion for the job. He particularly enjoys site and premises, contracts and contractors, building projects and Health and Safety. He also has strong knowledge of Financial Procedures and HR responsibilities. Paul is fully aware of working within tight budgets and has the ability to think outside the box to maximise a project but minimise the financial burden. Paul is honest and works on honesty, in his eyes there is no other way. Paul ran the marathon in 2006 so feels there cannot be any greater challenge in Education for him to overcome, but you never know what tomorrow may bring.
