Phonics phase 2-4Back on Track graphic

The Phase 2-4 Phonics course will support teachers in delivering high-quality phonics teaching, as well as deepening understanding of subject knowledge, key assessment indicators and methods of application for the embedding of key early reading and spelling skills.

This training is structured around the Letters and Sounds ‘free to download’ phonics programme but would support highly effective - and inclusive - delivery of any systematic synthetics phonics programme. It exemplifies a wide range of inclusive accelerants for phonics progress with evidence-informed interpretations of progression in phonics and lesson delivery. Whilst the main focus is upon phases 2-4 (typically Reception age-relatedness), the strategies and approaches will be invaluable to anyone teaching or supporting with phonics acquisition, such as those with gaps to be closed in later years.

In the suite, there are separate modules for:

    • introduction and phase 1
    • phases 2 and 3
    • phase 4
    • lesson structure
    • application and assessment.

Film clips exemplifying elements of best-practice are embedded into the module films, and accompanying resources are included.
