Exploring reading and writing opportunities for young children
During this conference, we will lead delegates into a wonderful world of literacy. As the magical day unfurls, practitioners will be inspired to reflect on how they nurture a love of reading and writing with young children.
This event has been designed around captivating speakers including Julie Cigman, Early Years Consultant, trainer and writer, who has had a number of articles published along with her latest book, Becoming a Writer in Leaps and Bounds – supporting boys’ writing in the EYFS. Other inspiring speakers include Pippa Goodhart, author of such wonderful picture books as You Choose and Just Imagine to name but a few. Kevin Graal, a highly skilled children’s storyteller and well-respected presenter, will also be joining us and sharing his passion for developing language through storytelling.
A wide range of interactive workshops will be on offer in order to equip practitioners with strategies, tools and ideas that will enrich their practice. The conference will also take into account recent Ofsted findings, reinforcing the widely known truth about the importance of early literacy in raising outcomes to improve future prospects. “Reading is the gateway to almost every other subject, and children discovering their own unique interest and talents”. Amanda Spielman – Dec 18 in The Annual Report for HMCI p9. As outlined in the report, the inspection of reading will have a higher profile, especially for the lowest attaining 20% of pupils.
Attending this conference will support practitioners in blending recent research and Ofsted findings with best practice back in school.
By attending the conference, participants will:
- feel inspired to reinvigorate the teaching of early literacy
- be equipped to raise achievement in early literacy for all pupils
- be empowered to share best practice with the school team
- feel more confident to nurture a love of literacy in their pupils
