We provide a comprehensive leadership and management programme of support for:
- experienced teachers wishing to take the next step into a leadership role
- deputy and assistant headteachers
- executive headteachers and headteachers as they develop in their career
- Business management professionals
Our programmes offer a combination of training, consultancy, conferences and networking.
Aspiring deputy and assistant headteachers
For experienced teachers who are interested in becoming a deputy headteacher. Our course, titled “So you want to be a deputy?” offers delegates an increased knowledge of the multi‑faceted role of deputy headteacher, as well as deepening understanding of how the role varies in different settings. The course also provides information and advice about applying to be a deputy headteacher.
Deputy headteacher induction programme and conference
For newly appointed deputy and assistant headteachers, we offer a programme of six induction sessions.
Two sessions run each term, and delegates are able to join the programme at any point in the year. Currently, sessions cover the following aspects of the deputy and/or assistant headteacher role:
- improving teaching and learning
- understanding and using data to improve pupils’ outcomes
- understanding school finance
- building leadership capacity and effective partnerships
- effective communication
- working with governors and human resources
An annual conference for all deputy and assistant headteachers is also offered. This popular event is delivered by keynote speakers, who are usually national figures from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of experiences and expertise.
The aim of the conference is to further inspire school leaders, to stimulate debate and also to provide networking opportunities that foster cross‑fertilisation of ideas and experiences.
For further information about our conference programme and pricing, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01438 845111.
We also offer a range of services to support headteachers throughout their careers.
These include training, mentoring, conferences, and access to executive coaching and a range of established support networks. A comprehensive training programme is also on offer across the county, working with teaching school alliances, to support school leaders with key issues and challenges.
A bespoke programme has been developed and is available to support headteachers during their first year of headship.
Moving to a New Headship (MTNH) programme
This programme supports those taking up their first headship and those moving to a new school in Hertfordshire as a head. It covers all phases and sectors: nursery, primary, middle, secondary, mainstream and special. It is designed to assist the process of initiation to headship, and supports new headteachers in balancing the practical demands of their role with personal leadership development.
The programme consists of:
- a comprehensive package of one day, half day and twilight training courses covering a range of key themes that heads will need to address
- a Professional Partner (and experienced Hertfordshire head) allocated to coach and mentor each new head on the programme
Our Hertfordshire Professional Partners (HPPs) are specially trained to support new headteachers throughout their first year of headship. HPPs are serving headteachers of Hertfordshire schools graded good or outstanding, each with at least three years’ experience in headship. They attend regular training to keep their mentoring skills up to date.
We encourage all new Hertfordshire heads to join the MTNH programme.
Business management professionals
For the newly appointed business manager we can offer a bespoke induction service which will support the development of the individual and the impact and effectiveness of the role in school. The induction will deepen the individuals knowledge of the role and provide important networking opportunities.
Our professional development programme runs annually, with delegates able to join at any point through the year. The course consists of 4 modules which examine a range of skills and behaviours which link to the Institute of School Business Leadership (previously National Association of School Business Managers) professional standards.
We also offer an annual conference for business managers. This is an exciting day offering the opportunity to explore best practice shared by expert school business management practitioners and to network with colleagues and businesses that provide services to the education sector. The day also hosts a motivational speaker to further inspire business management leaders.
