23 Early Years settings across Hertfordshire have been recognised in the 2018 Early Years Quality Standards (EYQS) awards.
Supported and mentored by advisers of the Herts for Learning (HfL) Early Years team, the EYQS supports settings with their self-evaluation, reflective practice, action planning and high-quality provision to improve outcomes for all children. This includes work to support parents, children and staff to make changes and to develop practice.
This year saw settings come up with new projects from developing learning environments indoors and out, improving parental engagement, promoting positive mental health, improving communication and language strategies to developing book areas and maths mastery.
Over 70 Early Years practitioners attended the nursery rhyme themed celebration awards on Wednesday 11th July at Hertfordshire Development Centre, Stevenage.
Out of the 23 settings – there were 18 schools, three day nurseries, and two pre-schools – 17 settings completed their Gold standard, four completed Silver and two achieved Bronze.
Speaking at the awards, Mireille MacRaild, Education Services Director - Early Years at HfL: “The EYQS is a whole-sector project, which welcomes all providers into one quality family, whether they be childminders, crèches, pre-schools, schools or out-of-school play workers. We all make a difference to the children in Hertfordshire.
“As a result of their hard work and dedication, settings have said that children have made stronger progress, that parents are now more equipped to help their children learn at home, that more children are reaching expected stages of development in communication and language or more children are reaching a good level of development than before.
“This highly regarded quality mark remains a reliable indicator of high-quality and is not awarded lightly. It is highly regarded so all our settings should be extremely proud of what they have achieved."
