Detailed English plan – Year 5 – The Listeners
This detailed English plan will support teachers in Year 5 deliver an exciting and engaging poetry unit, based on the classic verse, The Listeners by Walter de la Mare. The plan weaves together the statements from the reading (word reading and comprehension), spoken language and writing (transcription, handwriting, composition, VGP and spelling) components of the 2014 curriculum, showing how all of these aspects of learning can be addressed through creative learning experiences. Children will produce a range of written outcomes over the unit, culminating in an atmospheric re-telling of the narrative of the poem.
