This tracker is intended to support pitch, pace and progression from modelling of pre-Reception reading behaviours through to Y3 term 1, to secure a pathway to free readers.

It aligns NC2014 expectations, HfL reading assessment 'steps', Institute of Education Book Banding system, Reading Recovery/Fischer Family Trust book Levels and Letters and Sounds phonics phases. It will help ensure that  tracking of reading balances comprehension with decoding, and can support the matching of texts to current 'instructional' decoding ability for Guided Reading.

This tool is taken from the YR- KS1 Guided Reading booklet and matches the termly planning and assessment pages from this document; it is recommended that schools download this booklet to use in conjunction.
