Primary & Special schools curriculum training for ECTs 2022/2023

    Primary ECT (KS1 and KS2)

Providing development and support for ECTs during the first year of their induction period, this comprehensive programme has been re-designed to complement the introduction of the Early Career Framework, with a focus on strengthening subject knowledge, addressing key aspects of induction and promoting good progress against the statutory Teachers’ Standards. Sessions enable ECTs to receive high-quality training, share experiences with other ECTs and explore strategies for managing the pressures of their first year.

    EYFS ECT

This popular, interactive and exciting programme is delivered by the Early Years team and supports ECTs in a robust understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through a tailor made programme. The sessions will equip ECTs to further develop their pedagogy and understanding of key principles that support effective teaching and learning.

It consists of four full days spread over the academic year that cover essential aspects to support the development of high quality practice and provision underpinned by a responsive curriculum to enable children to make progress. A final session at the end of the programme consists of an interactive webinar that will enable the opportunity for Q&A with an Early Years adviser and self-reflection on the year.

    Special School ECT

This practical and informative programme is led by colleagues currently working in special schools alongside teaching and learning advisers from HfL. Delivered across three days spread over the academic year, this course can be tailored to meet the needs of the delegates and reflect the type of school they are working in. In recent years, as well as providing an essential overview of the induction year, topics have included: supporting learners with apps, iPads and other technologies; exploring how to make effective use of visual cues and other classroom strategies and making best use of assessment systems. Delegates have commented on how they have valued the opportunity to discuss and share issues relevant to being an ECT in a special school.

    Primary Induction Tutor

This webinar will provide an opportunity for induction tutors to gain an overview of the new 2021 statutory regulations. It will include essential guidance to ensure delegates feel both prepared and supported for changes to roles, responsibilities, processes and overall expectations of the two year induction period. It is specifically designed for schools registering early career teachers (ECTs) with Hertfordshire Appropriate Body Service from September 2021.

    Subject specific training for ECTs

We also offer subject specific training for ECTs appropriately targeted to address areas of development and strengthen their practice.

Secondary school curriculum training for ECTs 2022/2023

HfL will continue to run the full suite of our popular and successful high quality Secondary subject specific training courses, designed to complement rather than duplicate ECF provision (some using a blended approach of both online and face-to-face sessions.) We know these are tried and tested and NQTs always provide excellent feedback on the usefulness of these for their classroom practice - so we hope they will remain a cornerstone of your ECT CPD provision.

The programmes available are as follows: Design and Technology, English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Languages, PE, RS and Science.
