Does your office and business management function operate efficiently and effectively to achieve compliance and impact to support and deliver your desired outcomes for pupils?

Our experienced Business Management Consultants undertake reviews to support schools to improve the strategic and operational business management functions within the school. Recommendations will be made to provide the school with an effective, efficient operational business management structure to meet the business needs of the school.

Typically a three day review consists of two days on site and one day report writing.

    The on site review

The review commences with meeting the headteacher and other SLT members as appropriate and, where appropriate, the Chair of Governors, to understand concerns, issues or drivers for change.

This is followed by meetings with staff members individually to scope their current duties, any barriers they encounter to efficiency, identify training needs and capture thoughts on the operation of the office

The consultant will observe the flow of work, the office environment (and/or site management organisation) and the efficiency of operations.  Sampling will be undertaken on the processes used and tasks undertaken to gain more insight into how the business management functions are undertaken within the school.  At the end of the second day a verbal feedback will be given.

    The report

The consultant will write a report which will summarise who is undertaking what tasks and how this compares to their current and standard job descriptions.  It will also identify where there are gaps in operations or duplication, and will highlight areas where efficiency could be improved. The report will contain recommendations on any changes to staffing structure, job responsibilities and job descriptions, operating environment, training needs etc.

    Options can include:

    • office efficiency – office procedures, compliance, processes and use of best practice
    • infrastructure and premises management including management of external suppliers e.g. catering and cleaning contracts
    • staffing structures of non-education support including grading and job descriptions, roles and responsibilities
    • financial management – processes, procedures and compliance
    • development, training and mentoring needs
    • HR management – processes, procedures and compliance
