Engaging with diversity: an exploration of religion and worldviews

SACRE (Hertfordshire’s Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) has agreed the new syllabus that comes into effect from September 2023. Teaching this syllabus for RE is statutory for all Hertfordshire Maintained and Voluntary Controlled schools from September 2023

This conference will highlight what the key changes are compared to the current syllabus, where to access it and further training being offered.

The Agreed Syllabus reflects the views of Hertfordshire teachers and representatives of local faith and belief communities. The guiding light for those at the forefront of its development was to produce an Agreed Syllabus which would be easily accessible to all readers, whether Headteachers, Governors, RE leaders, teachers or parents, and to make clear both the educational value and the statutory nature of RE.

The revised Syllabus has considered national changes and developments, both in RE and in education since the previous Syllabus was published back in 2017. In particular, it reflects the emphasis now placed on what is called the ‘worldviews approach’ to RE.

Delegates will hear from Katie Freeman, Chair of the National Association of Teachers of RE (NATRE) and Bill Moore, Specialist RE Adviser to Hertfordshire SACRE.

The event will provide delegates with the opportunity to return to their school:

    • with an understanding of  what has changed and what remains the same in the new Agreed Syllabus
    • knowing how to access the syllabus and the new support materials
    • having some understanding of how to use the agreed syllabus to plan quality RE for the pupils in their school
    • aware of the further training provided by SACRE
    • having had access to a range of visiting exhibitors for RE
    • with a clearer understanding of the role and importance of RE in the school curriculum

Fully funded by SACRE for Hertfordshire schools

The conference is only available to Hertfordshire schools and is FREE to attend (for the first delegate from each school).

Headteachers, Heads of RE and RE Subject leaders are encouraged to take up their free place to find out more about the agreed syllabus: Additional delegates from a school will be charged £20 per person.
