Detailed English Plan – Year 6 – Blackberry Blue: And Other Fairy Tales by Jamila Gavin
This detailed English plan will support teachers in year 6 to deliver an exciting and engaging unit of work based on Blackberry Blue: And Other Fairy Tales by Jamila Gavin.
This plan incorporates a range of statements from the 2014 National Curriculum: reading (word reading and comprehension), writing (composition, transcription, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation) and spoken language.
Across the unit, children will produce several incidental pieces of written work including a recount, written monologue, and an alternative ending to a fairy tale which will develop children’s authentic, authorial voice. Through purposeful and carefully designed activities, this plan will challenge and stretch children to achieve the end of year 6 expectations for writing.
