Detailed English Plan – Year 1 Explanation: Simple Life Cycles
This detailed English plan will support teachers in Year 1 to deliver an interesting and engaging explanation unit based on the beautiful non-fiction text ‘The Big Book of Bugs’ by Yuval Zommer. Covering a range of spoken language, reading (research and retrieval) and writing (grammar, vocabulary and organisation) skills, this plan demonstrates how these aspects of learning can be delivered through engaging and purposeful learning opportunities. Attuning skills in reading non-fiction and writing informatively, children will produce a number of incidental written pieces of work, culminating in a written explanation of a simple life cycle at the end of the unit.
