Detailed English Plan – Year 3 – personal narratives writing unit
This detailed English plan will support teachers in Year 3 to deliver a purposeful and engaging personal narrative (memoir) unit based on the choice of at least two of these wonderful core texts: The Proudest Blue, Jabari Jumps and/or Ralph Tells a Story. Covering a range of spoken language, reading and writing skills, this plan also demonstrates how to select writerly techniques from the texts studied and invites pupils to apply these to their own writing. Attuning skills in ‘reading as writers’ and writing to entertain, children will produce several incidental written pieces of work, culminating in their own personal narratives at the end of the unit.
