This focused English plan will support teachers in year 3 / 4 deliver an exciting and engaging narrative unit, based on the classic novel, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The plan weaves together the statements from the reading (word reading and comprehension), spoken language and writing (transcription, handwriting, composition, VGP and spelling) components of the 2014 curriculum, showing how all of these aspects of learning can be addressed through creative learning experiences. Children will produce a range of written outcomes over the 3-week unit, culminating in an innovated alternative ending to the book.
