Following on from the success of Revising for Grade 4 in Mathematics, Herts for Learning (HfL) has launched a new resource designed to help students achieve a Grade 5 in GCSE mathematics.
Revising for Grade 5 in Mathematics provides students with useful and easy-to-understand revision exercises from the curriculum to help students achieve a Grade 4 in mathematics.
William Thallon, Teaching and Learning Adviser – Mathematics said: “The response the Grade 4 mathematics resource has been incredible. In response to demand, we have created this new resource that is precisely targeted at the needs of students who are aiming for a Grade 5 and been designed to be easy for students to follow.”
“A lot of 16-year-olds can find revision difficult, so I wanted to make a useful book that is both easy and productive for them.”
Revising for Grade 5 in Mathematics provides students with useful and easy-to-understand revision exercises from the curriculum to help students achieve a Grade 5 in mathematics. It can be used either individually at home or in the classroom and supports students studying across all exam boards.
The resource includes 30 self-contained revision sessions covering key skills and understanding needed to reach Grade 5. Each session should last around 40 minutes to one hour.
Each session comprises:
- Quick quiz on essential knowledge
- Review of previous session
- Reminders of key points
- Opportunities to practise
- Reasoning/problem-solving questions
William added: “We hope this resource gives students, and even adults, the confidence to do mathematics and achieve what is needed to be confident in maths.”
The previous resource has received excellent feedback. Simon Hall, Head of Year 9 at Astley Cooper School in Hemel Hempstead said: “These books gave my students a sharper focus as to what they needed to work on before the exams. The range and variety of questions ensured that my students were prepared for their exams in May. I would heartily recommend these books for students working towards a Grade 4.”
Leah McCarthy, Mathematics Teacher at St George’s School in Harpenden, said of the previous resource: “Brilliantly concise yet in-depth revision guide, my students chose it over all other revision guides and I use it weekly with both Year 10 and 11 as a teaching resource. Great variety, plenty of opportunity to revisit material to embed into long-term memory and thought provoking reasoning questions to extend each task. Currently my go-to resource and the students love it too. Thank you for writing such a robust yet accessible resource.”
More information about the resource, including how to purchase copies, can be found on the Herts for Learning shop.
Herts for Learning is also running a series of GCSE revision workshops for both maths and English. Find out more: GCSE revision workshops.
